This edition of the Rocketry Planet How-To Classroom is based on the Estes Maxi Brute Honest John, a 1/9 scale model of the venerable ballistic missile.  In our third lesson installment, we cover the construction of the motor mount assemblies and fin canister units.

ATLANTA, Georgia USA — Nearly five years of behind the scenes work by one man in the state of Georgia has paid dividends, where the Office of Insurance and Safety Fire Commissioner has announced a state-wide exemption from explosive licensing requirements for the state's participants of hobby rocketry.

On October 1, 2008 on instruction from the Presidents of NAR and TRA, our legal counsel filed a motion with the United States District Court of the District of Columbia, requesting a hearing on our civil action against BATFE concerning their regulation of high-power sport rocket motors. 

BLACK ROCK DESERT, Nevada USA — Curt Newport and Jeff Taylor successfully launched and recovered the "Proteus 6" rocket at the Tripoli Rocketry Association's experimental rocket launch.  Upon ignition, the fourteen foot tall rocket, weighing 170 pounds, accelerated to a velocity over 3000 feet per second.

Michelle Pieler of Braden River High School, Bradenton, Florida and Alexandra Gordon of Palm Beach Day Academy, Palm Beach, Florida won the national Reach for the Stars Rocket Contest. The girls beat out all other entries in a challenging spot-landing event.
