Product Review by Darrell D. Mobley
Sunday, August 20, 2006

ImageI recently acquired an Escape Velocity 2.6, one of Giant Leap Rocketry's "Ready to Fly" kits.  This kit is a 2.56" speedster that includes everything you need other than a motor and launch pad to build and launch your own high powered rocket.

Product Review by Todd Harrison
Friday, June 08, 2001

ImageI was awarded this kit as a DESCON 7 prize. The owner of USR was on vacation, but promised it would ship the week he came back. It arrived on my doorstep packed well and with all the parts contained in closed bag.

First Look: LOC/Precision LOC Graduator
Product Review by Todd Harrison
Wednesday, May 02, 2001

ImageThis rocket is a popular LOC kit for people new to composite motors. I liked the looks of the rocket and was in need for a new kit in that power range (D-G). The Graduator came promptly and packed well, however, the shipping company had still managed to kink the body tube.

First Look: Giant Leap Slimline Motor Retention System
Product Review by Tom Savoie
Wednesday, April 11, 2001

ImageJust before Thanksgiving I was discussing motor retention in minimum diameter rockets with Ed Shihadeh at Giant Leap. He was pretty excited about a new product that he was going to introduce after the first of the year. Ed said that this product would cause rocketeers to rethink the way they retain their motors because of two factors.

First Look: G-Wiz LC Product Review
Product Review by Dean Roth
Tuesday, March 27, 2001

ImageG-Wiz Partners manufactures rocketry electronics that can be used to collect maximum altitude, control parachute deployment and ignite the motor of a two-stage rocket. With some creative thinking the devices can probably be put to other uses, too, like camera activation upon launch.

Thursday, March 08, 2001

ImageAt a launch in Orangeburg, S.C. I had the opportunity to evaluate both the new deployment Freebags and the new "Classic II" Skyangle parachute offered by B2 Rocketry. First Look: LOC/Precision LOC IV
Product Review by Todd Harrison
Monday, January 01, 2001

ImageThis is a classic Loc kit that is very popular. Many people use it to certify or as their first high power bird. I was drawn to it by it’s large appearance. For someone used to Estes rockets it appears huge. I received it as a Christmas gift and started construction immediately.

America — Home of the Safe

IT'S BEEN A WHILE since I have written here, but in light of the recent events that have inadvertently affected the rocketry hobby, I have been going over a few things in my head. Like most of you, I watched with wide-eyed horror as the events of September 11th unfolded upon the American landscape. Nothing as horrific has ever happened to American citizens on their own soil.

Weird Rocketry Math

The Tripoli Wisconsin Association's (TWA) launches have drawn more and more fliers from farther and farther away. This has been good and bad. The 'bad' can include long waits between flights due to the number of people flying. The question of how to solve the problem was asked.

Rumpty Dumpty sat on a rail, looking to let out a great wail!

Jim Russell, Art Upton, Scott Miller and Mark Palmer are headed to Black Rock next weekend for XPRS and with them will be Rumpty Dumpty, a 4-inch all-composite two-stage rocket flying on a CTI N2500 staging to a CTI N1100, expecting an apogee close to 92,000 feet AGL.

Website Review: DrSuesRocketWorks.com

When most rocketeers think of the state of Florida, their mind immediately goes to Cape Canaveral, the launching point used by NASA to compete in the great space race during the 50's and 60's. Certainly that is a very good conclusion to jump to. But Florida is also known for a lot of other things, like being the lightning capital of the world, and Tampa and the surrounding area has become known as the lightning capital of the state!
