HARA delivers off another successful NASA SLI launch

ImageTONEY, Alabama USA — April 26 was another beautiful day at the Bragg Farm, where the NASA Student Launch Initiative was to be held. The Huntsville Area Rocketry Association arrived to temps in the 60's, and the American flag atop of the 150 foot tower was not moving at all.

ImageTONEY, Alabama USA — NASA's University Student Launch Initiative was held this past Saturday, April 19, at Bragg Farm in Toney, Alabama. Although an overnight rain had left the freshly planted corn field muddy, the launch was a go for the event host, the Huntsville Area Rocketry Association.

RockExShots 2007: POTROCS does research at Wayside

ImageSkyshots in June is the traditional early regional launch in the Texas panhandle normally held on the third weekend of June, but this year it was held over the Memorial Day Weekend. So with the schedule change and those that planned to fly, it was decided to make the entire launch research capable.

ImageNYPOWER, it's been THE big launch for Rich Pitzeruse for over 10 years now. Held in Geneseo, New York at the same site that hosted LDRS 23, NYPOWER enjoys a large mowed grass field carpeting a one mile by one mile recovery area. This past weekend, Rich and Calvin got their revenge there.

ImageUSCRPL is a student-run research organization based in the astronautics department at the University of Southern California. A group of the school's engineering students wanted to show that they knew their stuff in the latter half of 2005, so they got together and designed a carbon fiber rocket to display their skills.

ImageMay in Washington State is for rockets!  This year didn't disappoint with a large contingent of rocketeers in attendance at FITS 2007 — Fire In the Sky — the largest launch in the Pacific northwest each year. It was a very special event for Brad Wright, who successfully certified Level 3 there with his rocket, Panther Paws.

Austin Scouts bypass previous launch record by 566 rockets

ImageAUSTIN, Texas USA — Saturday morning started early for members of the Austin-area Cub Scout Pack 990 and Boy Scout Troop 990.  Today was the the day these younsters were going to break the record for the largest number of model rockets launched at one time, which stood at 399 set in September of 2005.

Numerous witnesses on the plane described a cylinder shaped object with a long plume of thick smoke pouring out its back.  Many said it flew rapidly past the front of the plane, nearly missing it.
