ImageFORT COLLINS, Colorado USA — Edward Wranosky of Alpha Hybrids recently announced that the company's long-awaited line of 54mm consumer products is nearing the end of its journey, with public availability expected upon completion of motor testing.

The line of 54mm motors include an I class and a J class impulse option, both using the same fuel grain, with each using a different nitrous oxide tank to achieve the desire impulse results.

Individual motor sets include everything you need to fly except the actual fuel grains.

The Alpha hybrids are lit using 3 pyrodex pellets in the head of the fuel grain, ignited with an e-match. These are the same e-matches used for recovery systems.  This combination gives the motor 'instant-on' characteristics, coupled with the injector design.

The Alpha Hybrid motors include:

  • 54mm motor casing
  • both I and J nitrous oxide tanks
  • 54mm graphite nozzle
  • graphite splash collar
  • forward closure and injector assembly
  • assembly snap rings

Some of the things the manufacturer thinks you should consider about Alpha Hybrids if you are considering getting into hybrids:

  • Same reload for both I and J
  • A wax-based fuel with a smooth burn
  • 'Instant On' ignition with the same e-matches you use for recovery
  • Pre-filled tank that allows you more time to fly and less time to fill
  • Snap ring hardware that allows easy assembly
  • Machined thrust ring that fits all retainers
  • No regulatory hassle

The I motor is an I160 while the J is a J165. The J motor is 28" in length and the I is 24" in length. Expected MSRP is $250 US.
