WORLD WIDE WEB — Essence's Model Rocketry Reviews (EMRR) is putting on two new web site contests: 1) "Virtual" Rocket Contest and 2) "Quantity" Photo Contest.

The first contest is a "Virtual" Rocket Contest. Contestants will submit RockSim files of their rockets and have them flown "virtually" in RockSim to determine the winner. Over $300 in prizes will be awarded. Entries must be submitted by March 9th. Winners will be declared March 15th.

The design of entries must include the following requirements:

  1. 18mm motor, single
  2. At least two diameters of body tubes for exterior body
  3. One body tube must be at least 3x the length of the other
  4. The shortest body tube must be at least 3" in length
  5. There must be at least 2 sets of 3 or 4 fins, different shapes and the bottom of the root edge at a different place
  6. Materials must be standard weights that are in the rocksim database
  7. Materials must be standard thicknesses that are in the rocksim database
  8. Fins can not be any thinner than 1/16" of an inch
  9. Must include realistic recovery and launch lugs (motor hook is optional)
  10. NO CP Overrides
  11. NO Mass Overrides
  12. NO Mass Objects for adjusting weight and CP other than normal required items like shock cord, eye-screws, etc.
  13. Must have at least 1 caliber of stability with an Estes C6 loaded

Entries will be flown in the following virtual events (via RockSim):

  • Versatility: Rockets will fly in "contest" conditions with (3) "contest" motors. The conditions and motors will not be disclosed. The score for each flight will be the Maximum Altitude (ft) * Rocket Weight (oz)
  • Max Altitude: Rockets will fly with a "contest mass override", "contest conditions", and a "contest" motor. The score will be the Altitude (ft)
  • Slow and Low: Rockets will fly in "contest" conditions with (1) "contest" motor. The placement score will be based on highest Time to Apogee (sec) and lowest Altitude (ft)
  • Drag Race: Rockets will compete in a double-eliminate drag race in "contest conditions", with a "contest" motor. 3 points are up for grab for each flight. 1st) Fastest to clear launch rail (sec), 2nd Longest time to landing (sec), and 3rd Lowest Range (closest to pad in feet)

The second contest is based on photos with "Quantity". Quantity of rockets! Quantity of rocketeers! Quantity of both! What can you capture in a single picture? That is the new photo contest. Over $350 in prizes will be awarded. Winners will be judged by EMRR Guests during a voting week of March 16 - 22, 2003.

Details regarding these contests may be found at http://www.rocketreviews.com.
