WORLD WIDE WEB — With the on going Homeland Security Act (HSA) and the further and impending regulation of our hobby, John Wickman of ARSA has started a legislative push.
John has worked with congress attempting to get certain items removed from the explosives list. These items include things used by hobby and amateur rocket enthusiasts. In working with congress, John has been able to setup a date in late February for those interested to contact their state senators. According to Senator Enzi and John Wickman we need to ONLY write to the SENATORS for now not to the House of Representatives. John has posted what to write and how to write it (http://www.space-rockets.com/congress.html). Congress staffers have also told him that timing is everything. In order to be most effective rocketeers need to write when the time comes—to fax out letters and call in to Senators when told to do so (both the Washington DC offices as well as their local offices). An upcoming press release will indicated the day rocketeers will need to write in. Rocketeers will need to fax and phone to really get through. It is a good idea to make a courtesy phone call after faxing to verify receipt of fax and thank the office for looking it over. It is hoped this massive writing campaign will bring about exemptions in the HSA for rocketry. |
