Las Vegas, Nevada, USA -- According to a news report posted today on their corporate website, AeroTech is claiming to have received evidence of regulatory relief from the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco and Firearms.
Their report references the final ruling of Notice of Proposed Rule Making 841 which was put into effect on August 26, 1998, stating "the hobby rocket industry had been recently made aware that effective December 22, 1998, new Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco & Firearms (ATF) regulations would have classed single-use 'G' motors as regulated explosives."
The news report goes on to state that on November 4, 1998, AeroTech initiated a dialogue with the ATF and according to the report, the result is that on November 13, 1998, the ATF stated to AeroTech that "the ATF will ensure that all currently exempted hobby rocket motor products will remain exempt. In other words, single-use 'G' motors will remain exempted from federal explosives regulations, i.e., you can buy, store and fly them in the manner to which you are accustomed." There was no comment in the report on AeroTech's "Easy Access™" line of reloadable motors.
AeroTech stated they will soon be receiving a letter from the ATF confirming this decision and that they will be initiating new rulemaking on a "fast track" to further clarify this position, to be effective on or before December 22, 1998. AeroTech invites interested parties who desire more information from the ATF to contact Mark Waller, Joe Bradley or Jim Zammillo in Washington, D.C. at (202) 927-8053.
No official comment has been received from the ATF at the time of this publication although industry insiders report that while there is no direct confirmation forthcoming on these events from Washington, the upcoming meeting with ATF would clarify these issues rather quickly. |
