BATON ROUGE, Louisiana USA — Giant Leap Rocketry announces the release of the SLIDER, a soft-deployment device for your parachute. Chute deployment is the most violent phase of flight. Excess speed tears & shreds chutes. The SLIDER softens deployment by opening the chute more gradually & stops the chute from "popping" open.
According to Ed at Giant Leap Rocketry, at the instant of deployment, it slides down the parachute shrouds, making the chute open a fraction of a second later — enough to help prevent the sudden pop that leads to shredded parachutes.
The SLIDER is made of ripstop and tubular nylon. It attaches to your existing parachute. The Slider-3 is meant for parachutes with an odd number shroud lines (example: SkyAngle), while the Slider-4 is meant for parachutes with an even number of lines (example: Giant Leap Spherachute Plus). The SLIDER can be easily moved from one chute to another. The Giant Leap website contains a mpeg video of a SLIDER equipped chute successfully deploying at 50 mph.
