CEDAR CITY, Utah USA — RCS recently digitized thousands of feet of old Super-8 silent and sound rocket-related movie film from the '70's and '80's. The company plans to eventually edit this material into a series of narrated DVDs covering the early history of mid and high-power rocketry.
In the meantime, RCS is pleased to release some footage that was taken at NARAM-16 in Manassas, Virginia in 1974. This 6-minute movie features a number of famous and recognizable personalities in the rocket industry at the time, such as Howard Kuhn, Dane Boles, Bob Del Principe, Lonnie Reese, Al Lindgren, the Williams brothers, Jay Apt, Howard Galloway, Mark Mayhle, Steve Lubliner, Jim Rea, Chuck Mund, Dave Griffith, Fred Shecter and others. Flights include the "panty hose rocket" and manufacturer demos by Estes (Dane Boles flying a Maxi-Brute V2), Flight Systems (Lonnie Reese with his F100-powered Black Brandt and "Thunderbolt" composite motor demos), Enerjet (Bob Del Principe flying the famous fiberglass-cased composites) and RCS's own Gary Rosenfield demonstrating early Composite Dynamics motors and modified Enerjet and F100 cluster motor rockets. Also not to be forgotten is the dramatic "car fire" in the hotel parking lot (NOT rocket related). Other than some minor editing to remove the old tape splices, the silent footage retains its authentic "home movie" flavor. The 30 year-old movie is 8.3 MB in size and requires Apple QuickTime for viewing. The movie can be found on the "News" page of the RCS website at http://www.rocketmotorparts.com. |
