WICHITA, Kansas USA — A Beginner's Guide to American Amateur High Power Rocketry is the latest release by Brian FitzGerald of Wichita, Kansas. Two hours and 29 minutes long, it is his sixth independent production and the first one available on DVD and VHS.

FitzGerald's first five productions, A Beginner's Guide to Ultralight Flying, Ultralight HangarTalk Part 1, Ultralight HangarTalk Part 2, A Beginner's Guide to Powered Parachutes and Take a Look at the Pulsar! have been well received by customers and reviewers alike. FitzGerald was named the Best Video Journalist of the Year by the editors of Ultralight Flying! Magazine for A Beginner's Guide to Ultralight Flying and given an Outstanding Achievement in Education Award for the Powered Parachute video by them also.

Like his other tapes, A Beginner's Guide to American Amateur High Power Rocketry (ABGTAAHPR) comprises in-depth interviews with experienced practitioners of the sport of high power rocketry. Eighteen people are interviewed for this piece. Scores of topics involving all aspects of this growing sport are covered.

In past documentaries FitzGerald has used a fairly straightforward interview technique with a number of music video segments interspersed throughout to provide artistic release. FitzGerald thinks these music segments provide the "Romance of Flight" element that is hard to convey in an interview format and help "close the loop".

For "Rocketry", he employed a new technique, though, that seeks to meld interview and music video together to create a "multi-level" experience that he believes to be more 'informationally dense' than a traditional straight up "talking head" interview.

Unlike his Ultralight features, though, this time FitzGerald did not compose the music used under the segments. With 18 different interviews and open and close music specials, he did not feel up to that task. Look for more Fitz-tunes in future productions.

In keeping with his dedication to a free skies philosophy in the ultralight aviation realm, ABGTAAHPR was produced in support of the continuation of self regulation of the sport of high power rocketry.

A Beginners Guide to American Amateur High Power Rocketry was shot over an eight month span at locations in Kansas and Texas. It took another year and a half to edit.
