WALLOPS ISLAND, Virginia USA — On July 17th, a large "Q" class amateur ammonium nitrate composite propellant rocket motor was launched at the NASA Wallops Flight Range Facility in Virginia.

The rocket was designed and built by students from the University of Cincinnati, Casper College and the Natrona County School District (NCSD). NASA supported the project through the Sounding Rocket Program's Student Rocket Flight Demonstration Initiative. It is designed to give universities the opportunity to fly student designed rockets in a safe and controlled environment.

The rocket motor was designed and built by students from Casper College and NCSD in Casper, Wyoming. It contained approximately 100 lbs of propellant and was a low end "Q" class motor. The motor was designed to be reloadable. The motor was initially test fired in May 2003 before it was reloaded for its flight this July. More information on the project and flight can be found at http://www.space-rockets.com.
