WORLD WIDE WEB — On Saturday, February 17th, 2007 at 6:01PM EST, the National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA) will launch the ULA Delta 2 rocket carrying NASA's THEMIS mission. NASA's "Time History of Event and Macroscale Interactions during Substorms" mission will track colorful eruptions of auroras near the North Pole. THEMIS' mission is to investigate what causes auroras in the Earth's atmosphere to dramatically change from slowly shimmering waves of light to wildly shifting streaks of color. Discovering what causes auroras to change will provide scientists with important details on how the planet's magnetosphere works and the important Sun-Earth connection. Themis, the goddess of justice, wisdom and good counsel, the guardian of oaths in Greek mythology, represents the NASA THEMIS mission. In support of the launch, Rocketry Planet has made arrangements to broadcast the launch live in a sponsored NASA-TV webcast in Rocketry Planet's chat rooms. THEMIS launch coverage begins at 3:45PM EST, with an 18 minute launch window opening at 6:01PM EST. The webcast is only available to registered users, but registration is easy and free. You must be logged in prior to entering the webcast and you must enter the special NASA THEMIS Live Webcast link to view the webcast. Themis launch
Thanks for coordinating a webcast. Sure wish I'd tuned in on time. Shame on me for not paying attention. Pity NASA can't seem to get the word out in a more timely manner. I would think lots of folks would want to be watching.
