BATTLE CREEK, Michigan USA — Some say you couldn't get any better publicity than this for hobby rocketry. And judging from the results starting to get plastered around Battle Creek, Michigan, it would appear they are right. Billboards showing model rocketry activities are sure to increase interest in the hobby in this Midwest town.
The billboards feature Jeff Graham, a member of Southwest Michigan Association of Spacemodeling Hobbyists (SMASH), Section #500 of the National Association of Rocketry. Graham volunteered for an outreach program working with students of Springfield Junior High School, reaching them about aerospace science. The resulting billboards illustrate advanced learning programs available in the Battle Creek Public School District. SMASH has been active in the western Michigan area since 1988, serving members from all over the western state area, from Grand Rapids to Kalamazoo to Battle Creek and beyond. SMASH supports all type of sport model rockets from Micro Max motors on up. The club will fly each month April through October with section meetings and other activities during the winter months. SMASH sponsors NAR sanctioned model rocket competitions each year. SMASH Website: http://www.homestead.com/smashnar500/index.html
