ImageCalling all rocketeers!  We need your help! LDRS 26 is just three months away, and it's going to be big.  To keep a launch of this size running smoothly requires experience and planning, and it also requires lots of volunteers. We've got the experience; we've made our plans — now we need YOU to volunteer!

Don't worry if you've never helped out with a launch before: it's not difficult, and it's always a lot of fun, too.  We'll teach you everything you need to know.  Volunteers are always welcome (and encouraged) at all ROC launches, so you're also definitely welcome to "practice" before LDRS.

Volunteers are needed to start Monday, July 9th at 9:00 AM on the lake bed in Jean, to help us set up the range, mark out the flight line, vendor area, and the parking and camping areas, as well as to help put up the various flag lines and signs.  We need a lot of help — this needs to be finished by Tuesday afternoon, so that vendors and other early arrivals will know where they are allowed to drive and set up camp.

During LDRS, we'll need people to take shifts at the following positions:

  • LCO (Launch Control Officer — runs the launch system)
  • Assistant LCO/Spotters (watch rockets in flight until touchdown)
  • RSO (Range Safety Officer — must be certified at least L2)
  • PM  (Pad Manager — assigns fliers to open launch pads)
  • Pad Escorts (take groups of fliers to pads, and assist with loading)
  • Security (patrols launch site and provides assistance as needed)

We also need volunteers starting at 2:00 PM on Tuesday, July 17th, to help us tear everything down, clean up any remaining trash or debris, and pack all the launch equipment into the trailers.

Volunteers will be rewarded: shifts worked will earn you "golden tickets", which may be used as "get out of line free" cards, entitling you to skip straight to the head of the line, or they may be exchanged for raffle tickets.

If you're willing and able to help us make LDRS 26 the biggest and best LDRS ever, please contact us through the LDRS web site, and let us know you want to help:

http://www.LDRS26.org/contact.html

Talk to the leaders and other members of your local club or TRA prefecture, too: you might all want to volunteer to work a shift or two together as a group!

Thanks in advance, and we'll see you at LDRS 26!
