GLENDALE, Arizona USA — Sheri's Hot Rockets officially released their 1/24 scale Mercury Atlas kit today and the results are nothing short of astounding. The number of pre-made styrene and cast resin parts make this kit a quick build for rocketeers with intermediate building skills. Standing 48 inches tall with a liftoff weight of 3.5 pounds, Sheri's latest kit will have scale modelers drooling for more. Utilizing a 5 inch diameter main tube, covered with styrene main body wraps and cast resin components, the kit is designed for high flights using G motors. Resin parts include: - Mercury capsule
- Launch tower escape rocket nozzles
- Verier side rocket pods
- Nose cones for side pods
- All external plumbing
- All three main engine nozzles
The three motor nozzles are designed to remain on the rocket during flight, with the central one serving as positive motor retention, while the launch tower can be left on or taken off for flight. The main booster tube and transition feature a 100% styrene cover with corrugated styrene for the lower booster area, CNC custom-cut 1/4 inch birch centering rings and 1/8 inch clear LEXAN® fins. A highly-polished chrome stick-on trim is added for realism. Also included are full-size plans and a comprehensive construction and flight manual. The decals sheet includes black vinyl booster markings and capsule decals for all Atlas missions, with the capsule decals being the same as the Atomic City 1/12 Mercury Capsule by Real Space Systems, only reduced to 1/24 scale.
