The late 50's was an exciting time in the world of rocketry and G.Harry Stine, the father of hobby rocketry, was a Viking-Aerobee Operations Engineer at the White Sands Proving Ground. Writing for Mechanix Illustrated, Stine's excitement about the coming space race is evident for all to read.
Stine's article, "All Aboard For Outer Space," appeared in the January 1956 issue of Mechanix Illustrated, opening with a discussion about a Viking rocket thundering 158 miles into space. Stine is setting the stage for the expansion of the oncoming space race and the United States role in getting there.
