IDAHO FALLS, Idaho USA — "Three... Two... One" could be heard as fans counted down to blast off at Bonneville High School's baseball field Friday, as area kids sent model rockets shooting in to the air.
Justin King, Loves Model Rockets: "We've been learning the physics of rocketry and how they work." A three day model rocket camp for kids of all ages Jeremy Sorrell, Launched a High-Flyer: "It's really difficult to create them and all thats the only thing that was difficult for me." Today was the payoff for all the hard work, launching rockets into the air. Katie Whitmore, Happy with Launch: "They put an electrical charge through the cords and that what makes them go!" With a couple rockets named "The Liquidator" Joe Cespedes:"I had the liquid one, it has a payload. I put Mt. Dew in it, the Mt. Dew kind of weighed it down." Hoping their rockets blast off to the highest altitude. Idaho National Lab's Center for Space Nuclear Research goal for the camp was to get campers excited about math and science Steven Howe, Center for Space Nuclear Research Director: "That gives us a feed stream in the future for students to come into our program. Also hoping this experience sparks enough interest for the kids to join the Idaho Falls Model Rocket Club Steven Howe, Center for Space Nuclear Research Director: "We would like the club to become essentially a student club." Justin King, Loves Model Rockets: "It's really fun and I enjoy doing it. I think the higher the better!" Friday's highest launch went 450 feet in the air.
