 LEXINGTON, Kentucky USA — Lexington Cub Scout Pack 160 met at the Diamond Middle School field last Sunday to launch model rockets.
Parents and scouts work together to assemble and paint the rockets, which come in a kit. These are miniature solid fuel rockets, and they can be used over and over again simply by replacing the disposable fuel cell. The rockets are launched via a remote control, and can reach heights of over 1,000 feet. Once the fuel is used up, the rocket glides briefly, and then the built-in parachute is deployed, which allows the rocket to gently return to earth. The Cub Scouting program is designed to encourage group and family involvement in activities which help boys to learn to respect their home, country and other people. Activities include many outdoor activities such as hiking and camping, projects that teach about science and nature, and also include Pinewood Derby Racing, where the scouts race model cars that they also build from a kit.
