The Bomarc was a ramjet powered missile that was boosted to ramjet speed (Mach 2) by a rocket motor. The Bomarc flew up to Mach 3.5 or 3.8, depending on which Internet account you read. The SR-71 Blackbird was credited as the fasted manned jet at a speed of Mach 3.2.

The French and Soviets have both developed unmanned ramjets that were much faster than the Bomarc and the USA has developed a scramjet (X-43) that has flown at Mach 9.6. Above Mach 5 the ramjet loses efficiency, which is where the need for scramjets comes in.

Most recently the fastest is the HyCAUSE which is a combined development of Australia and the USA, which flew at Mach 10: http://www.tfot.info/pod/2...thing-rocket-tested.html

Very nice, but is it really worth $100 for a mid-power rocket? Not debating the quality, which I am assuming to be high, but this seems like a decent jump in price for them. Gonna have to think hard on this one, but it is a really cool rocket kit, argh!

Yes. It is worth it. 29mm motor mount means I can fly it on H motors.

I love the BOMARC. I've wanted a BOMARC since I was a kid. I may have to go out and buy one of these kits.
