WORLD WIDE WEB — On Wednesday, October 10th, 2007 at 8:21PM EDT, United Launch Alliance will launch an Atlas V rocket with the U.S. Air Force's Wideband Global SATCOM-1 satellite payload. Rocketry Planet has made arrangements to broadcast the launch live in one of our chat rooms. The webcast will begin at 7:58PM EDT, with a 1 hour, 12 minute launch window opening at 8:21PM EDT.
The launch will occur from Space Launch Complex-41, Cape Canaveral AFS, FL, between 8:21 – 9:33 p.m. EDT. The WGS SV-1 is the first installment of the Wideband Global SATCOM (WGS) system. WGS will be an important element of a new high-capacity satellite communications system providing enhanced communications capabilities to our troops in the field for the next decade and beyond. WGS will enable enhanced and more flexible execution of command and control, communications computers, intelligence, surveillance and reconnaissance (C4ISR), battle management and combat support information. Yes, we all saw it! It was a great launch... You can't let a day go by without checking Rocketry Planet, otherwise you don't know what you might miss!
