PRINCETON, Illinois USA — Tonight at midnight is the close of pre-registration for the largest high power rocketry launch to be held in the midwest, Midwest Power V. Once pre-registration closes, there will be no onsite discounting of launch fees, so register now. Midwest Power is the premier Midwestern high power rocket launch launch, and during the last weekend in October, rocket enthusiasts congregate in the open fields of central Illinois to participate in this end-of-season event. Rocketeers of all levels and rockets of all sizes are welcome. With a standing waiver of 16,000’ MSL and windows of 20,000’ and 25,000’ MSL, large projects and minimum diameter altitude models can really stretch their legs. Friday will be an EX/Research launch, and is slated to be spectacular. Scott Kormeier will be flying a two-stage Terrier Sandhawk that he has been working on for a couple years, planned for "N" to "N" power. John Clifton also has an "O" powered rocket ready to go. Minnie Maggs are all the rage and some of these guys have built monster Maggs that they plan to drag race on "M" research motors on Friday. Saturday and Sunday will be very busy with many fliers attending. MWP5 already has over 90 pre-registered fliers at this time and many more will show up. The Mendota Boy Scouts will be cooking up their incredible edible pork chop sandwiches again this year, so with lunch available on-site, please support the Scouts. An Arrow Drag Race is scheduled for Saturday at noon. The winner of that event will bask in the aura emitted by the losers, who will be wearing the fabulous "Sunflower" print dress at the pizza party to be held at the Days Inn Saturday evening. Tickets for the party will be sold on-site at registration. Prizes for the winner have been donated by Wildman Rocketry and other fine rocketry vendors. A night launch will commence on the field Saturday evening following the conclusion of the pizza party, and a Minnie Magg drag race will be held on Sunday at noon. The event will be "H" impulse spot landing. Prize for the winner will be donated by Al's Hobbies. If you haven't yet considered volunteering to help with range duty, please do so. The online sign up form is still open, the roster has been updated today, and they would appreciate the assistance. Volunteers will get a raffle ticket for each two-hour block of time served to enter the special volunteer raffle. There will also be a regular raffle for everyone else at the launch.
