WORLD WIDE WEB — On Saturday, November 10th, 2007 at 8:39PM EST, United Launch Alliance will launch a Delta IV Heavy ocket with the Northrop Grumman-built Defense Support Program (DSP-23) payload. Rocketry Planet has made arrangements to broadcast the launch live in one of our chat rooms. The webcast will begin at 8:14PM EST, with a 2 hour, 3 minute launch window opening at 8:39PM EST.
The launch will occur from Space Launch Complex 37-B, Cape Canaveral AFS, FL, between 8:39 – 10:42 p.m. EST. The Northrop Grumman-built Defense Support Program (DSP) satellites have been the spaceborne segment of North American Aerospace Defense Command (NORAD’s) Tactical Warning and Attack Assessment System since 1970. DSP satellites use infrared sensors to detect heat from missile and booster plumes against the earth’s background. Air Force Defense Support Program satellites provide early detection and warning of missile launches and nuclear explosions to National Command Authorities and operational commands.
