ImageEUGENE, Oregon USA — Leading Edge Rocketry, a new model rocket company tucked away in the Northwest corner of the country, has recently introduced an exciting new kit, the Night Skeeter. Their recent ad in Sport Rocketry magazine describes what appears to be a very exciting new kit.

A member of Leading Edge's Sportster series, measuring 11 inches in length and 1.637 inches in diameter, the Night Skeeter introduces a familiar shape to the world of micro electronics, featuring an array of super-bright light emitting diodes (LEDs) around the outside of the airframe, making the Night Skeeter a perfect candidate for day time as well as night time flights.

What makes the Night Skeeter stand out is the 15 LED beacons and their accompanying micro electronics module, which allow the LEDs to flash in a sequential or random display pattern. The kit allows the hobby modeler to combine the thrill of rocketry together with electronics and system integration, all in one kit. If you enjoy soldering, you're going to love the Night Skeeter.

Featuring a real balsa nosecone, laser-cut basswood fins and a kraft cardboard body tube pre-cut for the LED displays, the heart of the electronics centers around the three LED electronics panels and the micro electronics module. The three LED panels are laser-cut with all of the LED, wire and mounting holes already in place, all you have to do is put it together.

The LEDs are powered by three AAAA batteries that sit in a unique motor mount holder, surrounding the central motor mount tube, and switched with a micro on/off switch built into the electronics module. Batteries are supplied in the kit by the manufacturer. The customer can choose between five colors of LEDs (red, yellow, green, aqua or blue) or select all of them as a rainbow option.
