RENDALIA, Alabama USA — Alabama's Phoenix Missile Works club will be celebrating their second annual Founder's Day this January 19th and 20th just east of Winterboro, Alabama, about 20 miles south of Interstate 20 and 10 miles south of the infamous city of Talladega.

Phoenix Missile Works is young club that serves as both a Tripoli Rocketry Association Prefecture and a National Association of Rocketry Section.  Their January launch is in celebration of the founding of the club and usually is their largest event.  At last year's launch, the event featured fliers hailing from over nine states, all seeking out one of the largest flying fields in the Southeast.

The club invites everyone to attend their celebration, and wants you to know they can accomodate all sizes of rod or rail needs, and with a 17,000 waiver, they have flown A10's all the way up to P motors in the past.  Anyone wanting to certify can do so under either TRA or NAR rules.

Currently, four vendors have committed to attending the event, so your launch needs should be able to be met with ease.

Schedule of Events:

  • Saturday, January 19th: Commercial launch where all flyers are welcome to start flying at 10am. Night launch is also planned starting at 5pm till 7pm. Dinner at a local restaurant at or around 8pm.
  • Sunday, January 20th: Research Launch open to TRA Level 2 and above, starting at 10am.

Thank you Darrell for the article.

We hope to see a alot of folks out this year! Last year's event was a huge success and only included one day of flying because weather became a factor for the EX launch.

We will keep an eye on the forecast and update the web site accordingly.

Thanks again!
