WESLEY CHAPEL, Florida USA — The latest TMT certification results add three newly certified K-class 54 millimeter motors to the current 12 that are already certified, which brings the total to 15 reloads in all from Jim Harris' company, Gorilla Motors of Florida.
Gorilla Motors has been given certifications on three new reloads and one new case, the 54-2550 series. The Gorilla cases are a distinctive green color and are of a snap-ring-closure design. All of the 54/2550 reloads are plugged designs with a full-size grain tracking smoke. The K980BL-P is a 65% "K" sparky motor that has 2123.22 N-seconds total impulse, with 1297.45 Newtons maximum, for an average impulse of 980.89 Newtons and a 2.17 second burn time. There is a total of 1230 grams of propellant in a standard bates grain format, total weight is 2457 grams. The thrust profile rises to about 175 pounds at the 0.1 second point, followed by a slow rise to 280 pounds at the one second point, then slowly decaying to around 225 pounds at the 1.9 second point with a return to zero after 2.38 seconds. The K1075RT-P "Red Twister" motor is a brilliant red flame, low smoke propellant formula. This reload produces a 88% "K" motor with 2412.96 N-seconds of total impulse, maximum thrust of 1235.72 Newtons, and average thrust of 1076.41 Newtons, for a 2.24 second burn time. There is approximately 1314 grams of propellant in a standard bates grain format, with a total weight of 2541 grams. The thrust curve rises to about 265 pounds at 0.5 second, then slowly moving along a neutral burn to the maximum 275 pounds at the 1 second point, before decaying to 250 pounds at the 1.85 second point and then dropping to zero at the end of burn time. The K470WC, is an 81% "K", with 2322.37 N-seconds total impulse that burns for 4.95 seconds, producing a maximum thrust of 1258.87 Newtons. There is approximately 1400 grams of propellant in a moonburner grain format, with a total weight of 2327 grams. The thrust curve is an immediate straight rise up to 215 pounds, then a gradual rise to the maximum point of 235 pounds at the 0.4 second point. The thrust curve then drops again to 170 pounds at the 0.5 second point, where it is a straight line curve to 0 pounds at the 4.95 second point. For more information, contact Jim Harris at:

Re: Gorilla Motors announces three newly certified 54mm motors
I checked out the Gorilla site and it sure looks like he has some interesting loads with some 75mm stuff on the way too. Does anyone know if he can actually ship motors yet? I see Conway is listed as a dealer but on his Sig line it reads "coming soon"

To the best of my knowledge, Conway is still waiting on approval for permits. That will be really cool as it means Colorado flyers will have access to just about all the APCP motors, plus a new hybrid vendor, Alpha Hybrids.

Re: Gorilla Motors announces three newly certified 54mm motors
Its good to see Jim move forward with another great product from Gorilla. He is definitely working hard to give more great options to the flyers in our hobby. I take my hat off to him as i know its far from an easy or non burdensome task.
As far as us being a Vendor...
John is correct, I am still working on all the legal sides of things be it Fed or local. We have had approval via Local law enforcement and fire. As well as recently had our ATFE inspection. We were informed that there has been a backlog of permits and renewals and were asked to bear with them as they get to them as fast as they can but are currently behind. I am working on the local permits (3 of them here for Colorado) transportation,Storage and use that are required for currently regulated materials such as APCP. with that come again more fees and even a explosives test. once we have permits we will be working to get certified by DOT for shipping so we can also ship via common carrier. Web site will be coming soon along with other products. I thank you for your patients during or working out all the details to become operational.. Please feel free to email me with any questions or inquire more on our full line of products we are currently working on.
