 LAUNCH Magazine In an online announcement released this week, Mark Mayfield, editor of LAUNCH magazine, released the details of the new publication. The magazine will be a new full-color, glossy model rocketry magazine that combines an emphasis on the hobby's history together with coverage of current events in the hobby. A private project in the making now for several months, the magazine will be a major sponsor at NARAM-48, where the premier issue will first be available. LAUNCH will be published six times per year, beginning with the first issue that will be made available at NARAM.
The premier issue will consist of 56 pages and feature some of the most in-depth articles ever in model rocketry. Plans call for a 6,500-word question and answer interview with Vern and Gleda Estes, a 4,500-word discussion between Lee Piester and Matt Steele as well as a comprehensive look back in time at Orville Carlisle, G. Harry Stine and Model Missiles. Plans also call for a story on the current state of hobby rocketry today, especially all the new technological developments. For those not attending NARAM, the issue will be available immediately afterward. Future issues will also emphasize vintage model rocketry, but every issue will include the latest news from manufacturers and a roundup of the activities of the National Association of Rocketry (NAR). They will also include inspirational articles on rocketeers out there pushing the edge. It was clearly pointed out that this publication is not in competition with NAR's Sport Rocketry -- LAUNCH plans to be a big supporter of the NAR.
