News Release by Essence's Model Rocket Reviews
Saturday, February 02, 2008

ImageBlow the balsa dust off those spare parts and join in on the fun! Essence's Model Rocketry Review ("EMRR") announced today that its new Box O' Parts contest has started. The prize list for this one is huge! The contest was designed specifically for those that really love "scratch-building" rockets.

The only instructions you have to follow are these:

  1. Box up some of those pesky spare parts that you have lying around and send them in to EMRR.
  2. EMRR will mix and match all of the parts received and mail you back a box of parts to build your creation from.
  3. Design your best rocket from your Box O' Parts and name it.
  4. Write a how-to article, along with pictures and templates, to allow someone else to build your design.
  5. Document your flights. (Allowable impulse range from MMX to G, inclusively).

The lengthy prize list includes a Batray from Madcow Rocketry, a Fake-Wulf from Rokitflite, your choice of a Flying Saucer (up to 29mm motor mount) from Art Applewhite Rockets, a Model Minutes 6-pack from an anonymous member of the Alamo Rocketeers, an MR1 from Public Missiles Ltd, a Mutant Daddy and T-shirt from Mercury Engineering Co, an extra large Scratch Builder’s Assortment from Red Arrow Hobbies, a $35 Shopping Spree from FlisKits’ parts section, a SpaceCad registration license from SpaceCad, a copy of the Spaceship Handbook from ARA Press, and your choice of a Vega or Viper from QMmodeling. Whew!

You say your parts box is a little lean? No problem. EMRR, Apogee Components and Red Arrow Hobbies have thrown in a few boxes of parts to help out. Look around the house, though. You probably have more parts outside your parts box than inside. That drawer full of old pens and markers probably has lots of parts available, and those old address labels that are just going to dry up could make some unique decals. The opportunity for creativity starts with the box o’ parts you send. Hurry, though. You must sign up and send in your box o’ parts no later than March 1, 2008.

For more information and to sign up, visit EMRR at http://www.rocketreviews.com/ and click on "Contests."

The tough part is going to be choosing what I can live without! My spare parts are my inspirations for new designs. This sounds too fun to pass up though.

I signed up and will mail my parts box off in the next day or so. I have always
liked the older ESTES parts box assortment. The older one's had all kinds of
older parts that you could use in scratch builds. This is a cool idea for a
contest.
