GODALMING, Surrey UK — The UK Space Conference 2008 is scheduled to take place March 26-29, 2008 at Charterhouse School in England, where one of the events is the UK Aerospace Youth Rocketry Challenge, the UK equivolent of the U.S. Team America Rocketry Challenge. UKAYRoC provides students with a realistic experience in designing rockets meeting a specified set of mission and performance requirements, where students work in teams the same way aerospace engineers do. while not intended to be easy, it is within the capabilities of students with a good background in science, math and craftsmanship skills. UKSC 2008 aims to bring together the members of the UK space community to take part in lectures, panel discussions, networking opportunities, a careers fair as well as many other events. If you are in academia, industry or government, are a student or educator, or if you are simply a space enthusiast, make plans to attend. Guest speakers at UKSC2008 include: - David Williams, Director General, BNSC
- David Southwood, Director of Science, European Space Agency
- Joe Engle, NASA Astronaut & test pilot
- Professor Sir Martin Sweeting, Chairman, Surrey Satellite Technology Limited
- William Pomerantz, Director, Space Projects, X-Prize Foundation
- Professor Ken Pounds, Emeritus Professor of Physics, University of Leicester
- Anu Ojha, Education Director, National Space Centre
The UKSC2008 program will include the following events: - UKAYRoC, the UK Youth Aerospace Rocketry Challenge (http://www.ukayroc.org.uk/)
- The preliminary judging panel for the Student Space Experiment competition, sponsored by BNSC and SSTL.
- The Sir Arthur Clarke Awards
