BATON ROUGE, Louisiana USA — Giant Leap Rocketry, Inc. now has 48” long couplers in 3” and 3.9” diameter tubing. This replaces the prior 36.5” lengths of coupler.
According to Ed at Giant Leap: “This was done for two reasons. First, longer couplers come in handy for avionics bays, reinforcing fin areas and so on. Second, the experimental, home-brew group, using the long couplers for casting motors.” These are now available on the Giant Leap website at: http://www.giantleaprocketry.com

 They also make great mandrels for making your own composite tubes.

A mandrel was my first thought as well. It is certainly a lot cheaper than trying to find an aluminum or stainless tube of the same dimensions.

Which, to my understanding, is why full length couplers aren't all that common...
