SEATTLE, Washington USA — A little over 50 years ago, the United States of America entered the space race after the launch of the Soviet Sputnik 1 satellite. Shortly thereafter, a new and exiting hobby was born on the wings of that event, the hobby of model rocketry.

G. Harry Stine is long considered the father of model rocketry, and it was his vision and drive that brought this safe hobby to the masses. His passion carried over to his son, Bill Stine, who went on to found Quest Aerospace, one of the hobby's major model rocket companies. Together, the father and son wrote the 7th edition of the Handbook of Model Rocketry, considered by many the bible of the sport.

The Museam of Flight, Seattle, will play host to Bill Stine on Saturday, May 3, 2008, from 2:00-3:30PM PDT, where he will present the history of the development of this exciting hobby in the William M. Allen Theater, based on his father's personal memoirs. The program is free with museum admission.
