ImageMARION, Iowa USA — The National Association of Rocketry's Education Committee is sponsoring as many as three travel grants for participants to attend the organization's annual meet, NARAM 50, running July 26th through August 1st, for first time B-division participants.

A grant by NAR member Robert Alway made this possible.

The recipients must be a NAR member in B-division, which covers the age group 14 to 18 years old as of July 1, 2008, and the recipient must not have attended NARAM previously. The grant award check will be given to the winners at NARAM to use for their travel expenses getting to the event.  Recipients will be chosen by the NAR Education Committee.

To qualify, the applicant must:

  1. Attend NARAM 50 for at least three days during the event week, which runs Sunday, July 27 through Friday, August 1, 2008.
  2. Compete in at least two events at the event. To learn about scheduled NARAM 50 events, see http://www.naram.org under "Schedule." It is recommended that first time competitors consider the following events on Monday and Tuesday: Set Duration, B Streamer Multi-round, and D Egglofting Altitude. For competition rules, see http://nar.org/competition/NARevents.html
  3. Give a talk or demonstration on their rocketry activities. This can be done on the sport range Sunday or later, or at a pre-arranged time during the week, for example, in the evening on the Wednesday Free Day before or after the R&D presentations. Examples of presentations or demonstration materials could be a Team America Rocketry Challenge (TARC) entry, a rocket with special features or design, or a winning rocketry science fair project. This project or demonstration must be on a separate topic from the NARAM R&D Competition if the B-divisioner chooses to enter this competition.
  4. After NARAM, write an article for Sport Rocketry magazine evaluating their experience at NARAM.

To apply, please fill out the attached form and send by e-mail as plain text or attachment, or by regular mail to:

That's an interesting scheme but I can think of 10 better ways to get more people there for less.

Or is it all about the elite?

Let's hear the ideas. Trip seems approachable - since he is National Events Coordinator pass along good ideas and see what happens.
