LAS VEGAS, Nevada USA — It seems no one comes out on the good end of a divorce settlement, but perhaps hobby rocketry consumers can stand to gain some benefit, according to an online announcement today by Scott Ulrey, owner of Just Rockets and BSD High Power Rocketry.
In his announcement, Ulrey claims to have received a certified letter from his estranged wife's attorney, ordering him to start liquidating Just Rockets' inventory to meet the settlement demands of their divorce. Under the agreement, Ulrey will be able to keep the Just Rockets, Inc. corporation, which owns BSD High Power Rocketry, but Just Rockets itself will be liquidated. Once the inventory sell-off is complete, remaining items that compliment the BSD product line will be moved over to the BSD website, but the Just Rockets website will be shut down for good as soon as possible. The company has already been experiencing shipping irregularities due the restricted access they are allowed at their shop until after a hearing scheduled for mid-July, so they ask customers to please be patient until the legal wheels cease turning. In Ulrey's announcement, he cited the current "soft" Animal Motor Works market, and stated that he would like to see an existing dealer take advantage of his situation and grab the whole AMW inventory. "What we would like to see is a dealer pick up the whole load," Ulrey said. Ulrey also stated that he had received some interested nibbles about BSD itself. "We have gotten a few [messages] regarding the sale of BSD," Ulrey stated. "I really don't want to sell BSD, but at this point I would look at all offers." If you are interested in seeing what they are putting up for sale, contact Scott at

Re: Just Rockets announces court-ordered inventory liquidation
I'm just curious, what does a 'soft' AMW market mean?!

Re: Just Rockets announces court-ordered inventory liquidation
The states that Scott operates his business in aren't big AMW consumers. First, they aren't certed in CA, so a big potential customer base isn't being tapped. And because they are relatively new to the NV and AZ regions, not a whole lot of folks have spent the money on new casings for them.

Re: Just Rockets announces court-ordered inventory liquidation
well Colorado likes them a whole bunch. Given the whatever you wanna call it between AMW and CTI, are Cess dealers now authorized to do AMW or do they remain 2 entirely separate product lines? (Hoping GLR might buy out the inventory )

Either way, the new motors will have to be CSFM certified. It's crap, but it's the price we pay for having the worlds most perfect weather.

What about this: http://www.rocketryplanet.com/content/view/1839/95/
"Unless some huge snafu occurs, all AMW reloads will have the California-required OSFM certifications in place, making them ready-to-sell and launch-ready anywhere in the state of California as of July 1st, 2007."

Re: Just Rockets announces court-ordered inventory liquidation
Yeah, I remember that post. It just never actually happened, because if it had, we would have been buying them.
I asked Scott about it at the last LDRS, and he said that since they were partnering with CTI, there was going to be a delay or something. Then a short time ago I read a post by Joel or Paul or someone (I don't remember) saying that the OSFM had their money but the cert process still hadn't gone through due to "delays."
For what it's worth, here's a snippet from their FAQ:
Quote: "Are Animal Motor Works reloads certified for use in California?
No, Not at this time. But, The zoo keepers have plans to certify the reloads with the California State Fire Marshal and achieve CSFM certification. Unfortunately, the date this will occur is TBD. We need to clear up some of the current Homeland Security Act issues first. AMW will make a public announcement when we succeed with CSFM certification. Please stay tuned to the AMW channel.

Those FAQ's from Animal are very poorly maintained - and as they clearly state - this is a part time job not a full time profession. At the time of the article you mentioned I am pretty sure people asked when they would update the FAQ and it was "on the list".

Re: Just Rockets announces court-ordered inventory liquidation
CSFM certification is a licensing and listing process not a testing process. It mainly involves the annual fee gravy train for CA. This was installed by Dane Boles and Mary Roberts of Estes. At the time the annual fee was $9000 and the per item fee was $50. It has changed, but not much.
By comparison the fee for Estes who had 40x the annual sales at the time was $500. No other state has either fee.
It is my understanding on several occasions even Aerotech has had difficulty paying all the fees and they have an effective monopoly. KBA was largely a way to pay the base fee in CA only once.
