ImageSIOUX CITY,Iowa USA — It was like "October Sky" in July. Dozens of elementary school kids spent the week at Morningside College learning about aerospace and building rockets. Friday the camp culminated with the kids shooting off their creations.

Reporter Erika Thomas shows us the sights and sounds of Siouxland's own space launch.

"Five, four, three, two, one, blastoff!"

"It's the highlight, ,definitely. Because we build model rockets all during the week and they are all put together today and we launch them and they just love it," says Mary Tester, Aerospace Education teacher.

"There were these really confusing instructions. But we figured them out," says camper Travis Ohl.

"It was very fun," says camper Bryanna Woodward.

"Making rockets and launching them," says camper Finn Peterson.

"We have problems just like NASA does. Sometimes the rockets don't go off,  we have to switch out the igniters or the engines but in the past we've always been able to launch all the rockets," says Tester.

"Three, two, one..."

"And then they said blast off,  we stuck it on there and then it fired really far," says Ohl.

"You're thinking that how high you think it's going to go," says camper Cameron Wahlberg. "I don't really know but it went pretty high."

"It was like shoooowwhhh..." says Ohl.

"It just went up very, very high," says Woodward.

"Because i thought it was going to be fun and it was," says Peterson.

"It's so fun to teach because they love it!" says Tester.

"I might be an astronaut of NASA," says Ohl.

The Aerospace Education class wrapped up Friday. But next week, first and second graders can participate in Space Cities.
