NEW YORK, New York USA — Contributing editor Mark Williamson's outstanding LAUNCH Magazine feature article on asteroids ("Deep Impact," November/December 2007) has won the ITT Award for Best Space Submission at the 2008 Aerospace Journalist of the Year Awards in London.

Williamson accepted the honor at a dinner and presentation at the Royal Lancaster Hotel in London on July 13. The Aerospace Journalist of the Year prizes are sponsored by the World Leadership Forum and considered the most important awards for aviation and aerospace writers and broadcasters. The awards were presented on the eve of the Farnborough International Air Show.

Williamson's "Deep Impact" feature in LAUNCH was selected for the ITT Best Space Submission honor over four other finalists, including:

Leonard David - Mars Exploration: Digging Deeper (Aerospace America)
Bruce Dorminey - Physics Up Above (Physics World Magazine)
Tony Skinner - Universal Shift (Jane's Defence Weekly)
Parviz Tarikhi - Destruction in Delta (Position Magazine/The Australian Magazine)

While LAUNCH was honored with the best space article, writers for Aviation Week came away with seven honors in other categories, the most of any publication.

I knew they had been nominated, but to win among that group is spectacular and very good for awareness of rocketry.
