BURLINGTON, Vermont USA — Kevin O'Classen, of Goshen, Vermont, was featured this weekend on the Burlington Free Press' website flying his high powered rocket. The scratch-built 60 pound rocket flew on a Contrail L2525 and as far as O'Classen knows, represents the largest hobby rocket flown in the state. It was just April of last year that O'Classen, a member of the Champlain Regional Model Rocket Club, was approaching the town of Fair Haven, asking to use the local airport to launch high power rockets. They had lost their previous field in Essex due to residential development and were hoping the town of Fair Haven could help. Fortunately, the club found a field to use and were able to begin regular launches again. On Saturday, a reporter for the Burlington Free Press visited their launch and conducted an interview. O'Classen was rewarded with a video report from the newspaper. The group has been slowing ramping up their flight operations at the new location and in October will attempt to launch an M flight. The L2525 flight, in addition to the largest hobby rocketry flown in the state, also represented the largest motor flown in the state. In time, October may yield yet another state record.

Nice! 60 lbs on an L is impressive no matter what state you are in.
