Re: Article: Wildman Rocketry introduces the Extreme Wildman kit
Nice.
But I wonder about the pricing, both regular and sale. Not that I'm complaining..this looks like a helluva deal...but it then begs the question, why is the 3" Wildman Dual Deploy selling for EXACTLY the same price (sale and regular)?
It's SMALLER, so it should be significantly cheaper! And it's not like the Extreme uses less-expensive parts (like, say, PR tubling)...both use filament wound Tubing, both come w/hardware 'n stuff.
I was thinking hard 'bout the 3" Wildman special deal...and I really don't want to go with the Extreme, simply cuzza the bigness of it. But now the 3" doesn't look like as-sweet a deal. Could it maybe be that Tim thinks he'll sell lotsa 75mm hardware/reloads & he'll make up the difference there (like computer printers ???

Re: Article: Wildman Rocketry introduces the Extreme Wildman kit
I see that the $199 price is for Wildman Club members, but that really doesn't affect my query. Retail price is about the same, and there's no Wildman discount on top of the $199 sale price on the 3" (I don't think). And nobody looking at the Extreme would NOT become a Wildman Club member, as the discount is a lot more than the price of membership.
So basically, it's $200 for either bird.

Tim: Looks fantastic. Two questions: Are the fins sized to go thru to the MMT? Also, is the body tube slotted for the fins? Thank you, Richard

Maybe the 3" is a sweet deal--but in order to introduce the 4" rocket--the Wildman has decided to offer a super super-sweet deal. I am certainly considering it.

Re: Article: Wildman Rocketry introduces the Extreme Wildman kit
I bought an Extreme Wildman for my wife as an anniversary present at LDRS to celebrate her successful level 2 certification flight.
It's a great kit at a great price and just about the cheapest and easiest way to get your level 3.
Thanks again Tim. You're the Best!!!

Congrats to your wife. When I talked with her at ST 2008 she was very nice and seemed to be well informed about the hobby. I'm tickled that she got her L2 and might (you imply) get her L3.
How high is that rocket predicted to fly on an L3 class motor?

The website hasn't been updated in a little while.....
Just make sure you scuff up the surfaces that are to be bonded together.

Understood. First time with a FG model rocket. Fair amount of experience with fiberglass in other venues.

Re: Article: Wildman Rocketry introduces the Extreme Wildman kit
Does anyone have an estimated assembled weight? I'd like to get some simulations on the altitude on an M motor. If anyone has this info or even a RockSIM file I'll take it.

How high is that rocket predicted to fly on an L3 class motor? Hi Brad,
If Crystal can get it built in time she'll fly it at Midwest Power next month for her level 3. We have several different motors to chose from to put into it for her flight so we'll wait and see what the waiver is and what the weather is doing.
The rocket is comparable in size and weight to the purple and white rocket I flew at Southern Thunder. That rocket has flown on various "M" motors and some of the flights have included the AT M1297W which went to 14,500', a mid-range Loki M2550 Blue to 16,500', an AMW M2500GG to 17,500' and an AT M1850W to 18,500'.
I would guess the Extreme Wildman will probably get about the same results. I had to go off to work as soon as I got back from LDRS so we haven't even broken the seal on the kit yet to get measurements and put them into Rocksim to see what it will do. The nose cone and fins are a different design so that is going to affect final altitudes one way or the other and so will the modifications we'll make. When I get home we'll put everything in and see what happens.
Have a Great Day!!!
Andrew

Do you know what day your planning to fly it yet? I'll be flying a Gemini Titan at Midwest Power, and hopefully my dad will get his L1 too.

That rocket flew great. I was surprised that I was able to keep it in view the entire flight using my binoculars (Thank goodness I have good ones with high contrast and sharp optics).

Before you modify anything would you please put a RockSIM together stock and upload it here? Also any details on weights and dimensions would be great.

We're not sure if it will even be fully built by Midwest Power. She'll start work on it when I get home but we'll only have about a week to concentrate on it due to other launches we are going to. If she doesn't get it up in the air at MWP maybe she'll do it at the Winter Nationals or next years Southern Thunder.

Re: Article: Wildman Rocketry introduces the Extreme Wildman kit
I've had a chance to take a look at this kit and I put together a Rocksim file for it which is located in the software forum.
First Impressions:
The nose cone appears to be from Performance Rocketry which is acceptable for the motors that will fit into the kit.
The airframe is made from fiberwound fiberglass which I think is made by Hawk Mountain.
The 3/16" thick G10 fins have a 12" long root with a 6" span which should prevent any flutter issues.
The directions for putting the kit together are a little vague in some respects so a novice builder of high power rockets may get a little confused. Tim stands behinds his products though and as an example of that on line one of the directions he encourages kit builders to contact him for any clarifications they may need.
My kit didn't come with the welded eye bolts that were shown on the parts list. There is a kevlar bridle included and two 1/4" all thread rods to use in the ebay and ten 1/4" nuts.
An owner of the kit would have to provide their own shock cords, nomex chute protectors, electronics sled and parachute(s) depending on set up.
Overall I would say the kit will live up to it's lifetime guarantee without a problem.
