After a few recent reports from users, we have investigated, identified and corrected an early main deployment issue for flights that exceed 10K AGL. If you fly below 10K AGL, the altimeter deploys the main at the correct preset AGL elevation. This code patch is a critical update for anyone planning on flying above or close to 10K AGL, and is optional for those that fly below 10K AGL. This patch applies to the following SN's (1000 thru 1567) and includes the PML Co-Pilot v2.0.
If you'd like to have your unit reflashed, verify your serial number is within the applicable serial number range, then package the unit(s) up and ship your package via USPS 1st class shipping w/Delivery Confirmation to our P.O. Box: Missile Works Corp. PO Box 1725 Lyons CO 80540 We'll return the unit to you USPS 1st class postage paid w/Delivery Confirmation. For your inconvenience we'll include a free rotary switch OR $4 worth of retail goods per unit. Please specify in writing what you'd like when you return your unit(s). You may also choose a $6 credit for any new purchase for each altimeter returned. Further reference information on this code patch is available on our web site: http://www.missileworks.com/rrc2-update.html
We sincerely apologize for this situation, and thank you for your continued support!

Does anyone know how early the main deployments were with this bug?

Re: Article: RRC2-mini / PML Co-pilot v2.0 10K AGL code patch
Well, this would explain why my recent flight at LDRS to over 18,000 ft resulted in a main deploy only 10 sec after apogee as witnessed by 2 people watching through binoculars. I was lucky as the rocket was recovered 2mi. away.
Same thing happened at the Winternationals on a flight to 12,000, and was recovered 3.7 mi away.
I was beginning to doubt my technique. Hats off to Missle works for announcing this glitch and fixing the problem.

Re: Article: RRC2-mini / PML Co-pilot v2.0 10K AGL code patch
What claim (if any) would a person have if they lost their rocket due to early deployment and drift? Would Jim stand behind that loss? I would not think so - since how you would prove the use of a product that is lost would be complicated but maybe on a well documented L3 flight?
I ask - because we seem to have different expectations of our vendors depending on what component they sell.

Thanks Jim for fixing the problem. All companies have problems from time to time but not all take responsibility to solve the problem. I'm a very happy customer and your service has always been first class. I'll be sending in my alt after our next launch.

Re: Article: RRC2-mini / PML Co-pilot v2.0 10K AGL code patch
I'm glad this came out early enough, i'm using three of them at MWP the end of this month and all three of them fall into the recalled SN's. The first time I used one was last spring and I got an early deployment from the main at 7300feet. I thought it was something I did wrong.
Thanks for the fix Missile Works.

Well, that explains it. It happened to me at BALLS with a flight to 12.6K. Not sure how early the main came out, but it was very close to apogee. I sent my altimeters back to Jim for inspection before this announcement came out.

Hey UV!
I was at Oct. launch, and will be at Nov's,..... unless I decide to take a walk on the wild side, and head up to Red Glare.

Dropping a line to say I've just received my RRC-Mini back in the mail.
Just over a week round trip!
Jim Amos even enclosed it in the little pink plastic bag I sent it in.
I can't say enough for Vendors/Manufacturers that are proactive about addressing issues with their products.
So, kudos to Missile Works, and thanks for the switch!
Now I have to find a way to put it to the test.....

"Claims"
Call in the trial lawyers and drive the hobby into extinction. Suck it up and move on loss goes with the hobby. I suggest using a tracker of sort for insurance. Better investment than trial lawyers or driving a vendor into financial ruin. Take it from an old timer don't stir the legal pot! The vendor should tweak the bad units for no-charge. The word is out now its up to the vendor to show they deserve future business by improving the product. Free enterprise system and competition will ensure only those worthy survive.
