ImageCULPEPER, Virginia USA — The Fall Battle of the Rockets Competition, brought to you by The Federation of Galaxy Explorers, Tripoli Central Virginia #25, and Tripoli Rocketry Association, resulted in the awarding of winners in the "G" and "H" classes, the first event of a semi-annual rocket competition.

In the "G" class altitude event, Jeff Boldig from Stafford, Virginia, flew his rocket, named "Sunny Side Up," to an altitude of 3390 feet on an AeroTech G75J 29mm RMS reloadable motor, a reload that fits the 29/180 casing.  The rocket weighed 20 ounces.

The Chantilly Academy Team from Chantilly, Virginia, won the "H" altitude event with an altitude of 4412 feet on a Cesaroni Technology H120 motor. Their custom built rocket was called "Murphy's Law Squared," and weighed 1.4 pounds.

This event's challenge was to build and fly a model rocket that reaches maximum altitude on "G" through "I" class Tripoli or NAR certified motors.

Congratulations go out to both "G" and "H" class winners, who were awarded $100 each. There were no "I" class event entries.

Open to anyone at any age, participants design, hand-build and fly high performance mid-power and high-power rockets to meet specified flight criteria. The semi-annual contest is aimed at increasing interest in math and science and promoting aerospace careers among young people, and will involve teams of students from all over the country. The event is held in Culpeper, Virginia, at the venerable Battle Park rocket range.

4400 feet on a G115 with a minimum 54mm BT diameter? That's either a typo or very impressive. If that really did that kind of altitude on a G115 imagine what that bird would have done on a full H. Yikes.

That was supposed to be an H120.

I should have entered. I flew my Amraam on an I-211 and hit 2929 feet. Nothing impressive but I would have won.

Wait... was there a sport launch as well as the contest? Dang I didn't go because I thought it was JUST the contest and nothing else. I wasn't driving 6 hours to fly 2-3 rockets.
