ImageWORLD WIDE WEB — In an online announcement last week, Greg Dyben of Rocketflite announced the availability of their MF-12 and MF-KIT, a newly designed e-match/igniter and pre-measured pyrogen kit, aimed at igniting large clusters of motors from black powder sizes up through 24mm and 29mm composites.

"This new e-match/igniter will ignite starting with only the power from a 1.5v AA Alkaline battery on up," Dyben said in his announcement on Ye Olde Rocket Forum last week, stating compatibility with many altimeter and timer based units currently on the market.

According to their website, the MF-KIT is used for making the MF-12 electric matches. The MF-KIT e-matches can be used as a replacement for the Daveyfire 'B' style e-matches, and are suitable for rocketry deployment charges and other similar uses such as igniting rocket motors.

This new low-amp, one-foot-long electric match blank can be fired with as little as a single 1.5v AA alkaline battery. The no-fire (N/F) rating is 0.92 amps and the all fire (A/F) rating is 1.6 amps. Once activated, the pre-measured 4 bottle kit will make hundreds of low-amp high-temperature magnesium-based MF-12 electric matches. The pre-measured kit includes a water proofing and desensitizing sealer, thinner and all necessary tools and instructions.

Dyben also hinted in a response to his initial posting there is a potential for Rocketflite's infamous "Silver Streak" motors to return to production.

"I would love nothing more than to be able to announce the return of the Rocketflite motor line. I'm currently talking with a person who owns property located in the Kingsbury Industrial Park which is near La Porte, Indiana," Dyben posted. "Hopefully we will be able to work out an arrangement that will result in the resumption of the motor line."

"My main focus will be on the F104SS since it is easily marketable," Dyben added.

Should that come to fruition, the G and H sized Silver Streaks would either be phased out of production or only produced at special times during the year.

Anyone know an email address for Rocketflite. Their website contact page does not work (it gives me an error on two different computers). Thanks.

I have been using Rocketflite MF ematch prototypes for all flights in 2008 and they work great.

For more info on MF ematches and the 27 engine cluster in my avatar:

That is really great info Boris! One question on igniting the BP motors. How did you keep the igniter in the nozzle? Was a small piece of wadding used as opposed to the Estes plugs? Just curious. Thanks.

GDiener,

Sorry I missed your question before.

I use masking tape to hold in my igniters.

Preferably the blue 3M painter's tape, as it releases when tugged hard.
