For those in the Great Northwest, the OregonRocketry Summer Skies rocket launch in Brothers, Oregon is this weekend, June 19th through 21st. The weather looks great with temperatures forecast for the upper 70's and light winds in the 10-13MPH range, with morning and evening winds forecast as calm. You are encouraged to join the OregonRocketry group in the sage.

This is the largest and most popular OregonRocketry launch at Brothers each year. They expect to easily see 200+ people at this weekend's launch. This launch typically means a great weekend and a lot of entertaining flights.

Friday, June 19th is Research Launch day. Tripoli members L2 or higher are welcome to fly hybrid and EX motors, based on the TRA research safety code. Tripoli members 18 years and older, any level, are allowed to fly rockets using commercial motors. Non-TRA members, those under 18, and invited guests are allowed to watch these events. However, you are not allowed in the prep area or beyond the flight line. You must be a TRA member to fly rockets on Friday.

Saturday, June 20th, and Sunday, June 21st, are commercial motors-only. Everyone is welcome to fly rockets on both Saturday and Sunday. Hours are 8:00AM to 10:00PM on Saturday and 8:00AM to 2:00PM on Sunday. There will be a night launch on Saturday night — you only need something on your rocket that illuminates the rocket. Glow sticks work!

Drawing: OregonRocketry will be giving away two tickets each for children and one ticket each for adults during the morning and afternoon hours Saturday, and will be holding several drawings to win great prizes. Be sure to get your ticket or tickets on Saturday before the drawings.

Summer Skies is a great launch event and very popular with the members and public. OregonRocketry certainly hopes you can join them, and who knows — you might have a lot of fun and maybe even win a prize.

Launch site elevation is 4500 feet, with a 25,000 feet above sea level waiver, or 20,500 feet AGL, for commercial flights with call in windows to 35,500 AGL. For research motors under TRA rules, the waiver is 75% of the commercial level, which is clearance to 18,750 feet above sea level, or 15,375 feet AGL, with call in windows to 26.625 feet AGL.
