ImageCULPEPER, Virginia USA — Battle of the Rockets will be held again this year and the Fall Competition is open to all Tripoli and NAR members for the G and H altitude events. Whoever gets the highest altitude and beats last year's altitude wins. The competition will be held October 31 at Culpeper, Virginia.

The Spring Competition, to be held March 27, 2010, is open to high schools, universities, and community colleges. Three events will be held:

  • the G class altitude event has a minimum altitude of 2281 feet set by Chantilly High School;
  • the H class altitude event has a minimum altitude of 6201 feet set by University of Texas Arlington; and
  • the third event is a planetary rover event where teams must design a rocket and rover to be launched to at least 1,000 feet and deploy the rover. The rover must successfully land and travel at least three meters autonomously.

The application form is posted and must be submitted no later than November 30, 2009. The competition guide is on line. All application fees go toward the awards.

Thanks go out to the sponsors for last year's event, which was a success.

Anyone know if that H record is right? In the rule sheet it says 6291... Simple typo but which is the wrong one?

Sorry, it was last Spring, not fall. The record last fall was 4412ft for the H.
