ImageFour cadets from Minnesota Wing’s Viking Composite Squadron will be awarded the Civil Air Patrol (CAP) Model Rocketry badge after satisfactorily completing all three stages of the CAP Model Rocketry program. Cadet members who successfully completed the CAP Model Rocketry program included: Cadet Second Lt. Elias Wiff, Cadet Chief Master Sgt. Lydia Wiff, Cadet Staff Sgt. Airman Gideon Wiff and Cadet Airman First Class Drake Willis.

This program is geared for cadet members who are interested in the science, technology, construction and successful flight of model rockets. It consists of three stages entitled: 1) Redstone, 2) Titan, and 3) Saturn. Each stage of the program requires cadets to complete both a written exam and a “hands-on” practical phase.

The actual launch of the completed model rockets was conducted at a sod farm just South of Minneapolis. Launch director and launch safety director Capt. David Coates and launch range officer 1st Lt. James Wiff oversaw the model rocket activities. Upon completion of the program, cadets will be recognized by their peers as having leadership skills in the field of model rocketry.

Civil Air Patrol, the official auxiliary of the U.S. Air Force, is a nonprofit organization with more than 56,000 members nationwide. For more information contact Lt. Col.
