ImageRogers Aeroscience is pleased to announce that a new free technical report download, The Aerobee Sounding Rockets, has been added to the RASAero aerodynamic analysis and flight simulation software website.

The Aerobee Sounding Rockets technical report download can be found on the RASAero web site in the Technical Report Downloads - Sounding Rockets section.

The Aerobee Sounding Rockets technical report covers the design, operation, and performance of the Aerobee 150, 150A, 300, and 300A sounding rockets, and some limited information on the Aerobee 100 sounding rocket.  It includes altitude and velocity performance data for different payload weights, solid booster and liquid sustainer motor design data, liquid sustainer start sequence information, and in-flight measured nose cone and fin skin temperature data.

The foreword to the technical report provides historical background on the progression from the use of the V-2 as a sounding rocket to the development of the Aerobee sounding rocket, and using the Ideal Rocket Equation and description of the rocket technology available at the time provides an explanation of the design strategy used by the Aerobee of using a long burn liquid sustainer ignited in the launch tower boosted by a high-thrust solid booster.

Additional information on the RASAero software can be found on the RASAero web site at www.rasaero.com.  The RASAero authors, Charles E. (Chuck) Rogers and David (Coop) Cooper can be contacted at This email address is being protected from spam bots, you need Javascript enabled to view it .

Some of the best rockets ever... My first high power magazine was this edition from 1997, with the OuR project on the cover. In an instant I was hooked, still have that one (in plastic.) Crazy to think that it has been about a dozen years since then. If only the OuR article was also online! This was the best magazine, or probably it should be called a journal, in my opinion.
