News Release by Cesaroni Technology, Inc.
Tuesday, March 09, 2010

ImageGORMLEY, Ontario USA — Canadian Association of Rocketry Motor Certification chair Tom Raithby announced today the certification of a new Pro54® tapered aft closure from Cesaroni Technology, Inc. The testing sessions were conducted on January 4th at the Gormley CTI facility.

Incorporating a tail cone profile, the new closure transitions from an outside diameter of 2.25" down to 1.90", with an exposed length of 1.42". The 2.25" outer dimension matches current commercially available filament wound fiberglass airframe tubing, which insures a smooth transition from airframe to aft closure in 54mm minimum diameter rockets.

The new closure is constructed of aluminum and features black Type III hard anodizing, weighing in at just 10 grams more than the regular Pro54 aft closure, which is constructed of stainless steel. Also included in the closure's construction are two small holes, which are provided to facilitate the closure's removal by the insertion of a steel pin, if required, to turn the closure.

The new tapered rear closure is perfect for use with CTI's newly certified Pro54 Classic Longburn™ motors, but will work with any Pro54 reload currently certified for use. One kit manufacturer has already been working on incorporating this new closure into a new high performance high power rocket kit that will be announced tomorrow.

Manufacturer's suggested retail price is $39.95, the same as the standard Pro54 aft closure.

Detailed dimensions of the new closure are provided at: http://pro38.com/pdfs/Pro54_dimensions.pdf

Pro54® is a registered trademark and Classic™ is a trademark of Cesaroni Technology Incorporated in Canada.

The removal tool holes could be used for motor retention by wire or clip, or even a pad based launch boost system.

Good-looking and functional, it doesn't get any better than that.

Hey waitaminnit! When the heck did you Americans annex Ontario??

(you can keep Ottawa, but we want the rest back!)

LOL, that's hilarious!

Agreed, Washington can probably swallow up Ottawa without too many here in Alberta noticing...

Does this tail cone interfere with motor retainers like Aeropack, or PML HAMR?

The whole point of this is to streamline the aft end of a rocket. It would not make sense to use it with a retainer. However, it is slightly smaller in diameter than the thrust ring on the standard aft closure and the section that is as large as the OD of a G10 tube is longer than the thrust ring portion, so I doubt that it would fit well.

This closure "assumes" the use of fore-end or other retention (tape) methods rather than conventional aft-end retainers.

I think this is the rocket kit that's mentioned in the news release.

It would be ideal in a Mongoose 54.
