ATLANTA, Georgia USA — In an effort to assist the national hobby rocketry organizations raise funds for upcoming legal battles concerning regulatory matters, a metro Atlanta, Georgia club has made initial strides in internal fund raising within the confines of their own group.

Southern Area Rocketry, NAR section 571, also known as SOAR, has challenged other rocketry clubs to pursue fund raising goals nationwide, to offset the tremendous costs normally associated with courtroom showdowns.

Dan Hamilton, vice president of SOAR, indicated the club started the new year out with a fund raiser at their first launch of the year, held January 16th. According to Hamilton, "at the launch we always hold a raffle to help support the club. For the January launch, the club decided that all proceeds from the raffle would go to the NAR legal fund."

Hamilton went on to state that the SOAR club would match the amount collected with funds from the club's treasury. SOAR's first launch wasn't what you could ideal - the weather on Sunday was a rainy drizzle with very cool temperatures for most of the day. Even with the poor weather and a lower than usual turnout, SOAR raised $110.00 in donations. Matched by the club, SOAR sent a check for $220.00 to the NAR legal fund.

Doyle Tatum, SOAR's Communications Officer added, "[SOAR] would like to challenge other rocketry clubs to also find a way to help support our hobby in this time of great need. If we don't do something, the government will continue to restrict us to the point we will no longer be able to participate in this hobby, and it will be lost for us and the generations that follow."
