Mike Gillette, owner of Rocket Dyne Systems, recently sold the consumer division to rocketeer brothers Mike and John Kerrigan. Mike and John have announced plans to make RDS' full kit and motor line available to the public once again.
They plan on offering the entire line of past kits designed by Gillette as well as a new line of mid to high power rockets, utilizing motors from G to O impulse. RDS' two stage high altitude rockets will also be available.
RDS kits feature airframe tubing made from virgin kraft paper. These tubes are strong, made from lightweight fiber especially designed to RDS' ridged specifications. RDS centering rings and fins are made from ¼" & 3/8" thick aircraft grade Baltic Birch plywood unless otherwise noted in specifications.
Reports are that they will be offering reloads that fit AT 29mm, 38mm, and 54mm motors, utilizing new types of propellants, including Stardust -- otherwise known as Firestarter burning titanium. However, they will require new closures due to greater operating pressure, which RDS will sell also. No RDS motors currently have an organizational certifications. Prices and kits will be available soon. Also on the drawing board are several 29mm & 38mm kits. For more information, visit their web site at http://www.rocketdynesys.com. |
