CARLSBAD, California USA — The AltAcc 2A has been shipping for the last 2 months and incorporates many changes that you have asked for, including a new pressure sensor, better battery retention and remote operation with an optional cable assembly. Unfortunately, there are two issues regarding some of the last AltAcc 2A's shipped:
- Due to my mistake, a programming error of the microprocessor has occurred on some of the AltAccs having a serial number greater than 1000. This error involves sensing the orientation of the accelerometer and effectively turns the AltAcc upside down.
- Because we changed the power supply circuit on the AltAcc 2A, there may be a "brown-out" when the AltAcc fires, unless you use a fresh, tested battery (>8.5V with at least 2 amps current capacity, do not use the "battery tester" included with some batteries.). There is a retrofit capacitor that I can install, or, I will send you the capacitor and instructions for you to solder the capacitor in place (this will not effect the warranty).
I have attempted to contact everyone by phone that has been shipped an AltAcc with the programming error. The capacitor addition is optional and is being included on all new AltAcc 2A's shipped. This announcement is simply to assure my customers that the AltAcc 2A is sound and is working just fine if the instructions are followed.
To check your AltAcc for the programming error, do the following:
- Check the serial number located at the top of the board just below and to the right of the THIS END UP printed on the board. If it is less than 1000 the unit is fine, if it is greater than 1000, continue with step 2.
- Perform Paragraph 2.3 Quick AltAcc Function Check in the blacksky AltAcc 2A Instructions. If you can't get the AltAcc to function, continue to step 3. OR, use the DOS ProRead and use ProDuce to display the AltAcc 2A Firmware. If the Firmware is AltAcc II - V2.027, the AltAcc 2A is OK, otherwise go to Step 5
- Instead of holding the AltAcc as shown in Figure 3, INVERT the AltAcc (THIS END UP will be up) and repeat the test. If the AltAcc functions, your AltAcc is defective.
- If you can't get the AltAcc to function in either position, call 760 730 3701 and I will help you resolve it.
- Return the AltAcc back to blacksky and I will replace the microprocessor, and send the AltAcc back with a check for your Postage and Handling.
I sincerely apologize for any problems that my mistake may have caused and have taken corrective action to assure that this will not happen again. If you have any questions, contact me at 760.730.3701.
