UseNET News — Recent discussions on the UseNET newswgroup 'rec.models.rockets' has led to the open call for participants in a joint venture to examine the producuction of model rocket motors for the hobby. Disgruntled hobby participants have lamented business strategies, or the lack of them, by Estes Industries, the leading producer of model rockets and model rocketry supplies, including model rocket motors.
Mark Bundick, president of the National Association of Rocketry, the longest running model rocketry hobby organization, has offered his cooperation to help coordinate efforts offline if others remain interested. Bundick offered to lead an investigatory consortium on the subject, stating, "Since my time is somewhat limited, I'm afraid to do this, I'll have to limit the attendance." He went on to ask that those interested in exploring in detail any potential business venture to email him with the following information: - a brief resume, vite or description of your qualifications to participate in the effort. At this time, the need is for people in industrial production, manufacturing operations, chemical engineering, process control, marketing and distribution; that list is certainly not exhaustive, and Bundick is willing to entertain skill sets from other fields.
- a first guess estimate of either the amount of hard dollars you could invest in such a venture, given 90 days to raise that sum, or a list of personal contact you have who would, in your current opinion, be willing to invest in the venture, and in what amounts.
From the email he receives, Bundick will select a group to continue offline the research into alternate production methods, technology transfer from other industries, market estimation, corporate organization, etc. and set up a private, moderated email list to handle correspondance within this group.
