ACWORTH, Georgia USA — Dale Windsor announced yesterday the completion of the new online webstore for LawnDart Rocketry. Windsor is building a rocket company from the ground up with his son and the new webstore marks the latest step in his company's growth. LawnDart got its original start when acquiring the rights to kits produced by Seattle Rocket Works, which include the mini Nike Smoke, the M.I.R.V. Gryphon and the SLAT/s.
The MIRV Gryphon features advanced Multiple Independent Rocket Vehicle technology. It consists of a clustered booster and four sustainer stages (IRVs) using 13mm mini-motors. As can be seen in the webstore's flight profile, the MIRV Gryphon launches as a unit. At booster burnout the four MIRV stages ignite and follow separate trajectories while the booster tumbles to earth. The IRVs are recovered under streamers. The MIRV Gryphon can also be flown in a two-MIRV configuration (recommended for first flights).
The most unusual aspect of the MIRV Gryphon’s design lies in the unique two-fin configuration of the MIRV stages, which allows the MIRVs to be packed closely atop the booster. Staging is accomplished using vented booster tubes. This technique eliminates the need to tape engines together, and is described fully in the Handbook of Model Rocketry. Each booster engine stages to its associated IRV independently of the others.
Windsor chose Atlanta, Georgia's uHostMe.com Internet Services as a web technology partner. uHostMe.com is owned by Darrell D. Mobley, also the founder of Rocketry Online, the rocketry-oriented Internet portal site. uHostMe.com's services provided to LawnDart Rocketry include web hosting and a database-driven online web store product that includes secure server access for processing credit cards online. uHostMe.com's ecommerce provider, CardService International, provides the payment processing gateway services.
According to Mobley, "I just want to provide needed Internet-based services to the hobby rocketry community, and through uHostMe.com, we are able to do just that. Dale and I have known each other since I moved to Atlanta back in 1996 and met him at a local launch, so it was a real pleasure helping him get his company to the next level."
