EVERETT, Washington USA —Rocket Vision announced today the release of the much-anticipated Veri-Fire Digital Launch Controller. The VFD is the only digital launch controller on the market, and the only one capable of running a group launch with a microcomputer. When used in single or multiple-pad configurations, it can launch at distances of up to 1000 feet from the pad without loss of current, and can report a short circuit.
When used in multiple-pad configuration, a computer is linked to the first pad on the range by a single cable. The rest of the pads are linked to each other daisy-chain style, minimizing the amount of wire on the range.
The control network protocol, RODCOM (The Range Operations Data Communication Network), was developed by Rocket Vision. This open, extensible specification is RS-485 protocol compatible, and fully compatible with wireless transmission, so telemetry capability can be added. Up to 250 units can be networked and the address space can hold over 4 billion unique addresses. Rocket Vision is publishing RODCOM so that other manufacturers and hobbyists can build devices or write software to communicate over RODCOM. Potential devices include hybrid fueling, purge, dump, and ignition sequencers, and weather monitoring stations. RODCOM is available as a free download from the Rocket Vision website http://www.rocketvision.com/Library/vfd_support.asp For multi-pad control, Rocket Vision offers VFROS (Veri-Fire Range Operations Software) for free download. VFROS is a complete Windows application that allows the user to graphically lay-out a range, then control the pads with either keyboard or simple point and click operations. VFROS can be downloaded at: http://www.rocketvision.com/Products/oneproduct.asp?productid=86 The basic Veri-Fire Digital package comes with a hand-held control unit, a launch pad unit, an arming magnet, cabling, and a users manual. Price for the complete set is $94.95. Launch pad units are available for separate purchase for $60 each. Rocketry clubs or youth groups with rocketry programs can receive a 10% discount on orders of $100 or more.
The Veri-Fire Digital is available only direct from Rocket Vision, and can be purchased through their website (www.rocketvision.com), or by phone or mail order.
